Cashmere is the softest fibre we work with. In this collection it is blended with extra-fine merino wool for pieces worn closest to the skin — cardigans, hats and balaclavas — knitted in our family studio in Dvorje near Cerklje na Gorenjskem, Slovenia.
The blend brings together what each fibre does best: cashmere adds exceptional softness and lightness, while merino wool adds durability and natural temperature regulation. For babies we also make a special line of baby blankets in 15% cashmere and 85% organic cotton.
FAQs
Why blend cashmere with merino wool?
Pure cashmere is very soft but delicate; merino wool is durable and regulates temperature. A cashmere–merino blend, as used in Jakopina cardigans, hats and balaclavas, keeps the softness of cashmere while making the knitwear stronger and easier to care for.
Does cashmere itch?
No — cashmere fibres are even finer than merino wool, so cashmere knitwear does not itch. That makes Jakopina cashmere-blend hats and balaclavas comfortable directly on the skin, including for children.
Which Jakopina products contain cashmere?
Jakopina uses cashmere in cardigans, hats and balaclavas blended with merino wool, and in a dedicated baby blanket line made of 15% cashmere and 85% organic cotton. The exact composition of each piece is listed on its product page.
How do I care for cashmere-blend knitwear?
Wash cashmere-blend knitwear by hand or on a wool cycle at up to 30 °C with a mild wool detergent, then dry it flat. Like merino, cashmere rarely needs washing — airing the piece is often enough to refresh it.
Is a cashmere blend warmer than pure merino wool?
Weight for weight, cashmere insulates more than sheep's wool, so a cashmere–merino blend feels warmer and lighter than pure merino knitwear. That is why Jakopina uses the blend for hats and balaclavas, where warmth without bulk matters most.
